Mass effect is a serious game, full of diplomacy, tough decisions and tactical combat, perhaps the tone of the game got too much for the writers/developers and that would explain the picture embedded after the break. (not much of a spoiler)

First off I have to say I write allot on the blogs about the grief my wife gives me as a gamer and how she sometimes does not always make it easy to enjoy the games and consoles. But I have to thank her for using her camera phone and taking this picture.

You know you are kind of a gaming nerd when you get all excited at the Grocery store to get your picture taken with Master Chief. I can remember a few years back seeing a card board cut out of Angelina Jolie from the Tomb Raider movie in the same store. Like any red blooded male in this world I sure enjoyed looking at the likeness of one of the sexiest women in the world. But I did not even come close to wanting to get my picture taken with that card board likeness. Master Chief was a whole different story, the idea of getting that picture just made me feel like a little kid getting their picture taken with Mickey Mouse at Disney World. So if you are like me and you want to feel like a kid again, start looking everywhere that sells the Gaming Fuel Mountain Dew.

Update: I sure do feel tall standing next to him!

Today marks the release of “Touch the dead” for the Nintendo DS. I don’t know, it must be me but I find the name hilarious. The game looks like it’ll be pretty fair, but honestly I can’t get past the name. This got me thinking about game names, sure “Touch the dead” is a pretty bad name, but how bad can they get? Well here’s a few names from the past that have stuck out for me.

  • Bouncy BallsBouncy Balls – C64 – 1996

Save the World of bouncy! This was one of the last few games released on the Commodore C64 and was completely unknown by everyone

  • grabed-by-the-ghoulies.jpgGrabbed by the Ghoulies – Xbox – 2003

I’m sure this name doesn’t mean much to Americans, but with Rare being a UK based company I’m surprised they didn’t change this name

  • sbbig.jpgSticky Balls – Gizmondo – 2005

Ah the Gizmondo, we barely knew ye. To say I’ve played this would mean admitting to owning a Gizmondo, which I have sworn to never do.

  • nutsmilkmsx.jpgNuts and Milk – MSX – 1984

A very generic Hudson soft game, that has been released several times for the Japanese market.

  • wild-woody.JPGWild Woody – Sega CD/Mega CD – 1995

Dusty, a pencil brought to life with magic powers with the mission of saving the universe

So there we have five games to prove that names can be worse than “Touch the dead”. I’m sure there are many more that I am missing and Seaman 2 is just around the corner

If you have ever done any of the things on this list, you might just be a FanBoy.  If you find that you have done more then three of the things on this list, it is time to face the facts that you are probably a FanBoy.

  • If you get into long flaming comment wars with people on blogs or forums, that take you hours to write.  You might be a FanBoy.
  • If you took the time to write WikipediA entries about the public figures that represent your favorite console, you might be a FanBoy.
  • You talk about why your console of choice is better because of the Teraflops it can process.  You might be a FanBoy.
  • If you have ever signed a petition trying to get a Publisher or Developer to not publish a game on another console.  You might be a FanBoy.
  • If you go to websites that are dedicated to other consoles, to leave derogatory comments about that system or the titles exclusive to that system.  You might be a FanBoy.
  • If you went in and bashed someone else’s WikipediA entry about a public figure that represents a console that you do not like, you might be a FanBoy.
  • If the degrading comments posted about your favorite console get you so angry that you forget to spell check your five page response to them.  You might just be a FanBoy.
  • If you have ever destroyed a game console that cost you money just to post a video on YouTube.  You might be a FanBoy.
  • If you have ever posted a message on the Internet that reads “(Insert Console Name Here) SUCKS!”, and that was the all you wrote.  You might be a FanBoy.
  • If you think that a Publishers and Developers are there strictly for the games and the gamers, and expect companies to forgo huge profits or even make a profit as a whole just to maintain a specific brand loyalty or some tradition of a series of games.  You might be a FanBoy.
